Wicked iPhone app of the day: iBatStats Review

picture 1 Wicked iPhone app of the day: iBatStats ReviewFor those that know me, they know I like to dig my cleats out around this time of the year for softball.  For those that really know me, know I love stats.  A few buddies of mine used to call me Statman back in jr. High and High school.  I was always an avid sports card collector.  I’ve got a few jewels that are collecting dust in my cases.  That’s ok because they’re supposed to.  Anyways, I always read the back of the cards and remembered the stats of players.  This was before the internet so stats weren’t that easy to get.  I knew a lot of stats and still do.  So that brings me to my point…

iBatStats is PERFECT for my softball team.  I haven’t told the guys yet that I plan on keeping stats.  Last year I wanted to do it but it never happened.  This year I have the iPhone and i went out and got the app.  It’s seriously freaky cool.  Simple.  Here is what it does that will help me.

- add as many players as I want from my team.

- have an ongoing agreggate of year to date stats for each player.

- I can email those stats to each player with clicks(taps) of a button.

- Unlimited amount of games.  I can go back and look at specific game stats for any player I log.

- If a guy is running late to the game, I can pick it up and call anyone on the team with the super cool “call” button.  Yes that’s nerdy but I don’t care.

-I can create a game and add plaers that are rostered for that game and that game only.  It will then give me a team and player total for stats.  So if somebody sucks for the day, we could technically look at the “stats” and give them a breather!

- I can generate stats for a whole season, certain players, within specific dates in about 0.04 seconds and then email it to whoever.  That’s rad.  It can show one players year to date stats.

This makes my softball experience that much better.  Call me weird, I don’t care.

Oh here’s the link.  http://idevelop.fullnet.com/iapps/modules/apps/ibatstats.php

They get my vote as cool app of the day.

Another cool reason to have an iPhone

Having remote access to your computer at home via your iPhone… Gez how much better can it get? Just wait until you can run a whole business from the iPhone… I do have to say running a vista or XP on your iPhone could be a little weird.

Rogers and their iPhone and…. why John Henderson of Scotia Capital is an idiot…

Rogers has been under alot of heat lately. The blogsphere has just lit up. Rightfully so. In the last week, Ruinediphone.com has gotten over 30,000 angry people who either were going to buy an iPhone or were thinking about it sign a petition that says NO.  CNN MoneyReuters CanadaGizmodoGlobe and MailCTVRadio-CanadaYouTubeWashington PostCBCTUAWRedEye ChicagoThe GazetteMacworldMacNN have all made huge headlines about the story.

Recently, Bell came out with their Undercuting prices with their new Unlimited Data plans. The Samsung Instinct which has been hailed as the ‘iPhone Killer” is selling really well in the States.

Then…… it gets better…

TELUS is next to offer unlimited data on a smart phone……. while debuting their HTC Touch Diamond….

Rogers does not get it…… at least the others see what Rogers did wrong and listened to customers.

Now onto why John Henderson of Scotia Capital is as greedy as Rogers Wireless….

I take this from this article in the National Post.

“Mr. Henderson calls the recent outcry regarding Rogers’ iPhone monthly pricing by online blogs and petitions “ridiculous.” According to company research, high-end e-mail users might use about 50 MB of data per month, with video and music download making up for the rest of the minimum 400 MB offering.”

….Ridiculous? 30,000+ people complaining is a measure stick dude… 50mb of data month? Have they been surfing the REAL internet and not that mini version? I get that you never have to worry about paying for a bill yourself since you are most likely packing a BB and Scotia Cap is paying for it…. but man you gotta know your facts before you fire off stats like you did…50mb? one Youtube video takes that much data…. But of course your an analyst and you are getting paid well to say what you want investors to know…

A TINY bit embarrassed to be a Canadian…

ruiened iphone 300x108 A TINY bit embarrassed to be a Canadian...

When I went to school in Idaho, I was always happy to say I was from Canada when people asked. I always have and always will.

This past week I get this IM from buddy Tim. Tim lives in Dayton, OH. We go back to our days in California over 10 years ago. Tim is a Mac hardcore like me. He used to be a PC guy… he even served in Iraq working on PC’s over there. He has the 1st generation iPhone. I am completely jealous. He was the first one to show me the iPhone rates from Rogers.

This is the part where I am a TINY bit embarrassed to be a Canadian. We are the laughing stock of the wireless world.  Rogers has a complete hold of the GSM market here in Canada. They obviously use this to their advantage. Anways, IMO their data plans are a joke. They say that they are packaging their plans to cater to certain people… That’s the worst thing they said to justify their plans. their $60 plan with 150 muntes and 400mb of data is all I can choose if I want the lower package. That doesnt matter if I need more minutes to talk or more data…. I have to work in that pacakge or move up…. compelte joke.

There is a site that I took part in for a petition. http://www.ruinediphone.com

They have had good exposure with CNN and some others. As of this writing, the have 15,122 people who have signed this petition. That says alot for what Rogers has done. Will this come back to bite Rogers? I’ve been with them for over 6 years….. Rogers needs to listen to the customers and stop the greedy factor.
